Biloxi Lighthouse
The Biloxi Lighthouse deserves a spot at the top of every list of places to see in Biloxi. Constructed in 1848 out of cast iron, the lighthouse was the first of its kind in the Southern United States. Though it’s not one of the most prominent cultural undertones in Biloxi, the arts scene is certainly buzzing. And the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art is one of the city’s finest examples of it.
George Ohr, one of the museum’s namesakes, is affectionately known as the Mad Potter of Biloxi. The Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art is chalked full of art exhibits honoring his legacy.
The permanent collection at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art is curated of works belonging to Ohr himself, including ceramics, pottery, and photographs. The art museum also cycles in exhibitions from other renowned and upcoming artists, with a focus on highlighting works of local BIPOC communities, from paintings and drawings to pottery.
The museum building itself is a work of art. Designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry, it’s one of the most stunning buildings along Beach Boulevard. The Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art has received several architecture awards and is a wonder to observe.
Ship Island

Deer Island

Deer Island is close enough to shore that you can get there on a paddleboard, kayak, or canoe. You can also rent a small boat from the Biloxi Boardwalk Marina if you’re not feeling particularly active.

At the Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum, you’ll learn about fishing, culture, and local ecosystems. You’ll get a primer on boatmaking as you observe a collection of wooden boats, including the “nautical treasure” Nydia, built right here in Biloxi.
If your journey through the Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum leaves you itching to get out on the water for yourself, you won’t need to go far. The museum owns a fleet of replica schooners that set sail on a regular basis.
